Raffaele Iorio, 41, originally from Acerra, believed by the police to be a member of the Lombardi clan headed by the boss Mario De Sena, was arrested at the A10 motorway barrier in Ventimiglia by border police officers. The man, with a criminal record ranging from mafia-type association to arms and drug trafficking, was traveling on a “Flixbus” coach from Marseille to Rome. It was a battered identity card that attracted the attention of the officers during the check. Taken to the office, it emerged that Iorio, a long-time fugitive, had taken refuge in France, after a sentence of approximately 5 years in prison, handed down in 2017 in Ancona, for a cumulative sentence for drug trafficking and tax crimes. “The arrest of the fugitive affiliated with the Camorra clan represents a further blow inflicted by the police on organized crime,” commented the director of the Ventimiglia border police, Martino Santacroce. “My police officers have once again demonstrated their excellent professionalism.” Iorio, found with 4 grams of hashish, was taken to prison in Sanremo.
