He was taken from his shop and taken to a building materials warehouse in the presence of prominent members of a Camorra gang to "remind" him to repay the debt claimed by the criminals. This is one of the incidents in the investigation into racketeering and the Camorra that led the Carabinieri of the Castello di Cisterna Investigative Unit (Naples) to execute a precautionary detention order in the Marano area, north of Naples, and surrounding areas. The order was issued by the investigating judge of the Court of Naples at the request of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of the Naples Prosecutor's Office. There are 7 suspects, of which 6 in prison and one under house arrest, all believed to be affiliated with the Orlando-Polverino-Nuvoletta clan and accused, to varying degrees, of extortion and attempted extortion aggravated by mafia purposes. In one case, moreover, it was ascertained that the victims, in order to comply with the extortion requests, had even started the procedures for the sale of a property they owned. The investigation, conducted by the Investigative Unit of Castello di Cisterna and coordinated by the prosecutor Maria Di Mauro and the deputy prosecutor Giuseppe Borrelli of the DDA, made it possible to document in detail three extortion episodes, of which two were completed (for an amount of approximately 72.000 euros) and one attempted, which occurred between 2015 and 2019, to the detriment of a father and son, owners of a commercial business in Giugliano in Campania. The acquisition of images from the video surveillance systems of the commercial establishment where the suspects went several times, during opening hours to the public, to extort with violence and threats huge sums of money to pay off supposed debts contracted by one of the owner's sons, proved to be fundamental for the reconstruction of the facts. The precautionary custody order is only a partial outcome of broader and more complex investigations that aim to dismantle the Orlando criminal organization that is always growing with new followers: among those affected are Luigi Esposito, nicknamed 'Gigino and Celeste' who - the Carabinieri explain - as soon as he was released from prison in the summer of 2017 after years of detention, put himself back at the top of the now decapitated clan, Carmine Carputo already affiliated with the Polverinos, testifying to the criminal integration of the two groups, and Sabatino Russo, already close to the Giugliano clans.
The names of those arrested:
Carmine Carputo, born in '56
Luigi Del Prete, born in '90
Vittorio Di Giorgio, born in '75
Michele Di Maro, born in '72
Luigi Esposito, born in '59
Andrea Lollo, born in '80
Sabatino Russo, born in '65
Raffaele Scognamiglio, born in '75
