From Piedmont to Sicily, the Authentic Villages of Italy participating in the National Day will celebrate slowness as a value, a value to be rediscovered in a world that now tends to privilege and idolize speed, with increasingly frenetic lifestyles, ever-faster travel, increasingly hasty and superficial human contact, the constant "connection," and exacerbated competitiveness.
The watchwords of the National Day are: “community”, “identity”, “attention to detail”, “patience”, “dedication”, “quality” of creative processes and “conviviality”, to give greater visibility to those small and medium-sized Municipalities that, from the North to the South of the country, represent the great cultural and food and wine heritage, still being discovered by an Italy that aims at a more sustainable model of life and the valorization of local resources.
In the participating Municipalities, several initiatives have been organized to enjoy the territory and its prerogatives, for those who want to take the time to recover the dimension of slowness, indulge their thoughts, relax, participating in events, walks, observations, workshops, sports proposals and other activities.
The event represents an important and strategic appointment in this 2019 Year of Slow Tourism and aims to give a strong boost to the knowledge of the identities of Italian Villages, of their productive know-how, of the system of communities and cultures that represent the true authenticity and strong identity of our country. Slow tourism is synonymous with sustainability and affection for that Italy that, if observed with serenity and relaxation, offers images, landscapes, narratives, human relationships of inestimable value and that instill well-being. The National Day will be the occasion to turn our gaze to lesser-known locations that preserve landscape, historical, artistic and productive heritage of our country. Authentic Villages in which we find unpublished messages written with words such as authenticity, productive know-how, attention to detail, creativity, beauty.
The participating Municipalities have developed a very rich program by scheduling local events and initiatives that are strictly coherent and pertinent to the theme and the special project as a whole.
