During his homily on the feast of San Gennaro, Cardinal Sepe focused on several passages concerning young people: "We must ask ourselves: how can we save our young people? How can we convince them not to leave Naples and the South as those approximately seventy thousand young people who emigrated in 2017 did? What future is there for them and for the community?" More than ever, we must recognize that every measure not adopted to combat evil becomes a measure in its favor," the Archbishop of Naples stated, "a free pass that makes anyone who lowers their guard through incompetence or cowardice, or even through simple shortsightedness or even irresponsibility, complicit and guilty."
"Denied employment, missed education, inadequate social services, and unmet healthcare needs," he added, "mean giving free rein to everything that fuels criminal organizations and is harmful to the people and future of this city." "It's no coincidence," he concluded, "that young people are the ones who find themselves under attack. This is where the targeted and sustained attacks on Naples originate, which are the targets of organized crime and all types of Camorra, both old and new."
