CASERTA. This morning the police were active in the area of Via Acquaviva, a few steps from the Caserta church of Sant'Anna. Patrols of Carabinieri soldiers freed an abandoned and dilapidated building in the area of Via Acquaviva occupied by illegal immigrants despite the large presence of asbestos and hazardous waste inside the building itself.
The mayor Carlo Marino had ordered the evacuation a few days ago, the order as highlighted this morning by local newspapers, had created moments of panic and tension in the residential area of the city of Caserta in recent days. The intervention of the police avoided harmful consequences, but above all clashes between immigrants and citizens were avoided despite reports by the residents of the area of waste and dangerous materials that had been lying inside the abandoned building for a long time.
