Five cars were hit by multiple gunshots in a central area of Avellino. The vehicles, belonging to and used by two separate families, were parked near their respective homes. Carabinieri from the Investigative Unit of the Avellino Provincial Command are investigating. The cars were extensively damaged, literally riddled with bullets. In the same area of the city, a bomb, likely remote-controlled, detonated late Sunday evening in the car of a restaurant owner, who had just gotten out of it. Investigators are not ruling out the possibility that this latest incident may be related to this recent incident. The owners of the cars had not filed a complaint.
A couple from Avellino were attacked and robbed in the heart of Florence. The victims were entrepreneur Massimo Giordano and his wife, singer Mary Marisol Petruzziello. The incident occurred on Via Nazionale, just meters from the Santa Maria Novella station, where the couple was walking to the 3:30 PM Italo train after a CT scan.

Five attempted scams targeting elderly people were foiled by Carabinieri officers from the Avellino Provincial Command in various towns in the Calore Valley. Once again, the criminals attempted to use the now-familiar "fake relative in trouble" technique, but the alertness of the potential victims and the swift intervention of law enforcement foiled the scheme.
The calls came to the homes of elderly residents in Venticano, Pietradefusi, and Montefusco. On the other end, a frantic voice described a relative involved in a serious problem, often an accident or an urgent legal matter, and demanded the immediate delivery of cash and valuables to a representative who would shortly arrive at the door.
