Nine convictions. This is the request made by prosecutor Luigi Landolfi against nine defendants, who have chosen to face a fast-track trial. They are involved in the major investigation into electoral postering and vote-buying, as well as drug dealing in the capital.
The public prosecutor of the DDA has requested 20 years for Giovanni Capone, considered the contact of the Belforte clan in the capital; 14 years for Antonio Merola; 16 years for Antimo Italiano; 16 years for Vincenzo Rea; 4 years and 9 months for Ferruccio Coppola; 10 years for Mario De Luca, from Casal di Principe; 9 years for Modestino Santoro; 8 years for Virginia Scalino; 6 years for Clemente Vergone.
Judge Marro of the Naples court adjourned the hearing for the defense of the defendants until early October. The defense team includes lawyers Nello Sgambato, Gaetano Laiso, Davide De Marco, Alessandro Diana, Domenico Antonucci and Giuseppe Foglia.
According to the prosecution, Giovanni Capone, who was in prison at the time, had given precise instructions to his brother Agostino using “pizzini” to take care of putting up election posters in the city of Caserta for the 2015 regional elections. The latter, with the material collaboration of Vincenzo Rea, Antimo Italiano, Antonio Merola and Antonio Zarrillo, allegedly forced the candidates to refer to the service company “Clean Service”, registered in the name of Agostino Capone’s wife, Maria Grazia Semonella. The imposition occurred both with explicit intimidation, as captured during the wiretaps, and through threats addressed to individuals caught putting up posters late at night, and by covering the posters put up without resorting to their company, then sending the message that such an inconvenience would not have occurred if they had turned to their company. During the investigations, conversations were also intercepted that allowed the reconstruction of a drug ring in the capital.
