The chamber music section of the sixty-seventh edition of the Ravello Festival also ended with the highly applauded concert of the Gruppo Ocarinistico Budriese. Music in Ravello continues with “La meglio gioventù”: after the conservatories of Campania and those of Rome and Venice, the “Niccolò Piccinni” Conservatory of Bari makes its debut. Two concerts on the bill with the talents of the Apulian institute today attended by over 1500 students and which at the festival presents some of its many excellences, awarded in recent years with prestigious recognitions including the National Arts Award announced by the MIUR. On Wednesday 18 September (19 pm) at the Oscar Niemeyer Auditorium there will be two instrumental ensembles, of percussion and cello, engaged together in a musical programme of rare and pleasant listening which includes works by Jacob ter Veldhuis, Csaba Zoltàn Marjàn, Rùdiger Pawassar, lannis Xenakis, Nebojsha Zivkovic. The percussionists Vincenzo De Leo, Antonella Fazio and Niccolò Fino (2018 National Arts Award) will alternate on stage; then it will be the turn of the cello soloists Federica Del Gaudio and Marcello Sette (2017 National Arts Award) and the ensemble directed by Giuseppe Grassi, in music by Edward Elgar, Giuseppe Verdi, Pietro Mascagni, Enrique Granados, Niccolò van Westerhout, Nino Rota, Dmitrij Shostakovich and Ennio Morricone with arrangements by Michele Cellaro, Marcio Carneiro and Michele Galvagno, and Francesco Tanzi. In the afternoon, at Villa Rufolo, the first edition of the “Young Talent” award, established by UBI Banca – main sponsor of the Ravello Festival 2019 – as part of the “La Meglio Gioventù” section, curated by maestro Antonio Marzullo. The award will reward three young musicians who performed during the season. On Thursday 19 September (19 pm), again at the Auditorium, there will be a new and special tribute to the unforgettable Nino Rota (who was director of the Bari Conservatory for almost 30 years), on the fortieth anniversary of his death. The program that will be performed in the City of Music rediscovers the chamber Rota (and never performed too much), but also that of songs and music for the cinema: Parla più piano, Cabiria, A Time for Us, Tema di Gelsomino, and that of the Suites of music for the cinema (arranged and instrumented by Nicola Scardicchio), such as Amarcord, Rocco ei suoi fratelli, Prova d`orchestra, Il gattopardo. Friday 20 September (19 pm) fourth appointment with “Le note di Sigilgaita” and organ music. This time, the majestic organ of the Cathedral will be brought to life by Michel Bouvard, a maestro from Lyon who currently holds two of the highest positions in France: since 1995, together with Olivier Latry, he has held the chair of organ at the CSNM in Paris and is also the titular organ in the complex of the Romanesque basilica of Saint-Sernin in Toulouse, the monumental Cavaillé-Coll (3458 pipes) inaugurated in 1889 by Alexandre Guilmant. The great French school is present at the head and tail of the program, separated by two organ transcriptions of instrumental music by Bach and Mozart, where Bouvard's wife, Yasuko Uyama, titular organ player of the baroque organ of Sant Pierre des Chartruex in Toulouse, participates. We begin in the seventeenth century, the Golden Age of Louis XIV, with the father of the French motet, the Belgian Henri Du Mont, and continue in the glories of the Baroque age with another harpsichordist and organist, Louis Marchand, and above all with the “poet-musician”, François Couperin, known as “the Great”, the one who illuminated the court of Versailles with the originality of his harpsichord 'paintings'. The conclusion jumps to the twentieth century with the variations on a Basque carol by Bouvard's grandfather, Jean, who introduced Michel to his passion for the organ. The mystical figure of Charles Tournemire is evoked through the reconstructions of his extraordinary improvisations performed by his pupil Maurice Duruflé), also an organist and the famous composer of a Requiem conceived during the tragic times of the German Occupation.
