Pizza, tomatoes, and street art come together in Naples to convey the values and colors of solidarity. This year, the first edition of the "Costantino Cutolo Street Art Festival," promoted by the Costantino Cutolo Foundation, kicks off as part of the Napoli Pizza Village. The Foundation, which aims to provide innovative support for international volunteerism, was established in memory of Costantino Cutolo, a lawyer and son of Lino, owner of the Compagnia Mercantile d'Oltremare, which owns the "Ciao – il Pomodoro di Napoli" brand. The contest will have a dedicated space within the Napoli Piazza Village, where pre-selected street artists will be able to develop miniature works of art to be created in spaces provided by the City of Naples. On Saturday, September 21st, at 9:30 pm at Terrazza Ferrari (Via Miguel Cervantes 60/M, Naples), the winning entry will be awarded by a jury composed of a delegate from the Mayor of Naples, Luigi De Magistris, Lino Cutolo, and Niko Romito, the three-Michelin-starred chef from Castel di Sangro and creator of the Academy of Advanced Training that bears his name. During the evening, moderated by Antonello Barone, director of Kcomunicazione and creator of the Festival del Sarà, a delegation of Romito's students, along with pizza chef Simone Fortunato of Pizzeria Diaz in Naples, will offer a pizza cooking demonstration.
“The choice to link the “Costantino Cutolo Foundation” and the world of street art was born from the need to convey the values that unite the world of pizza, and therefore of tomatoes, and those of solidarity, to the values of street art”. This is explained by Lino Cutolo, creator of the Foundation that remembers his son Costantino. Street art, according to Cutolo, is an artistic avant-garde capable of reflecting with irony, sarcasm and provocation on the evils, defects and aberrations of modern society. A movement that anticipates trends and guesses the taste of people who act in communities. «Above all because it is a movement that, born on the street, claims its popular and democratic value. Popular and democratic like pizza, the most eaten and loved food in the world. – observes Lino Cutolo, who adds – It was precisely the incredible popular participation in the Napoli Piazza Village event that inspired us to create a contest that has the ambition of being international and itinerant in the world, with events in New York, Tokyo and other places”. A project aimed at young street artists, who by registering for the contest will have the opportunity to create a mural hypothesis to then actually create in spaces appropriately dedicated by the cities participating in the initiative. “Let's start with Naples, my city, the city of “Ciao”. I thank the organizers of Napoli Piazza Village who wanted to host our project, the Municipality of Naples and Mayor Luigi De Magistris who enthusiastically supported the initiative, and the friends who honor me by being with me on the jury to remember the figure of my son”. The Costantino Cutolo Foundation was created to support the right to access to water, food, health and education for children in every place in the world. A conscious and present solidarity, through a silent and reliable intervention. "A first important project, underway in Haiti, is the construction of a soup kitchen for 300 children. - Lino Cutolo reports, concluding - Our action is expressed in active solidarity, made up of a few initiatives carefully followed at every stage. We promote micro-projects to support childhood. We put know-how and expertise at the service of local initiatives, offering constant and proactive support. We cultivate the new inhabitants of the Earth. A collective investment for the future of all children, which is the future of the planet".
