Throughout Wednesday, thunderstorms and rain may still affect parts of central and southern Italy; however, by Thursday, the unsettled weather will be a distant memory. A stunning September summer is on the way. The team at www.iLMeteo.it reports that starting tomorrow and Friday the 13th, a warm North African breeze, driven by a low pressure system over the Moroccan and Algerian coasts, will begin to raise temperatures, particularly in the Tyrrhenian Sea and the two major islands. The weather will also begin to warm up across the rest of the country, heralding a truly hot weekend for this time of year: over the coming weekend, temperatures will rise to above-average levels. The heat will escalate over the coming weekend, with highs potentially reaching 34/35°C. For primarily geographic reasons, Sardinia, Sicily, and parts of the Tyrrhenian coast will be most affected by this sudden return of heat. These high temperatures could be recorded in inland Sardinia and western Sicily. Temperatures will also reach close to 31/32°C in cities like Naples, Rome, and Florence, as well as across much of the southern regions. Temperatures are expected to rise generally in the North as well, albeit more moderately: in the cities of the Po Valley, temperatures will rise to 30°C, as in Milan, Ferrara, and Bologna. Furthermore, the team at www.iLMeteo.it warns that this September summer will persist in Italy even afterward: over the next week, specifically between Tuesday the 17th and Wednesday the 18th, a further push from warm North African currents could lead to a new increase in heat across much of Italy, once again particularly affecting Sardinia, Sicily, and the Tyrrhenian areas of Central Italy.
