“We have received several reports of garbage being transferred from one garbage truck to another, causing leachate to spill onto streets and sidewalks. The people reporting the phenomenon have specified that it occurs, in particular, near the La Masseria shopping center in Cardito and along Corso Umberto in Caivano. This is an unacceptable behavior that comes from those who should be making cities cleaner. The leachate, thanks to the heat, dries on the asphalt, giving off nauseating stench. Or, when it rains, it slips into the sewers with effects that we can all imagine.” This was reported by the regional councilor of the Greens Francesco Emilio Borrelli. “We recall that just Tuesday a boy died after slipping with his scooter on a strip of leachate in Via Rosaroll in Naples. We have sent a note to the two administrations asking them to shed light on this phenomenon. The garbage collectors are responsible for cleaning the city, it is unacceptable that they contribute to dirtying it”
A meeting convened by the Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, took place this afternoon at the Prefecture to address the Harmont & Blaine dispute. The Italian textile and fashion industry has been navigating difficult waters for years. A day of strike action and demonstrations took place today in front of the Harmont & Blaine plant in Caivano, where workers are protesting the announcement of 32 layoffs out of a total workforce of 129. The protest was called by the sector unions Filctem-Cgil and Femca-Cisl, who described it as a sudden decision, lacking any prior consultation.
"We called this strike because we find the layoffs announced by the company unacceptable," says Andrea Pastore of the regional secretariat of Filctem Campania. "We consider it abnormal that a decision of this magnitude could be made overnight, without any consultation with the unions. A company with an international media profile cannot be so superficial in the presence of 32 workers, who represent 25% of the workforce. This is an unacceptable attempt to reduce labor costs. We demand the immediate withdrawal of the layoffs."
