Salerno. The Salerno drug dealers arrested yesterday during a raid by the Flying Squad had a turnover that would rival even Scampia's in its heyday. They resulted in 16 people being jailed under precautionary measures issued by investigating judge Piero Indinnimeo and at the request of deputy anti-mafia prosecutor Elena Guarino. They are all charged with conspiracy to traffic drugs and subsequent supply, with the aggravating circumstance of dealing low-quality drugs near places frequented by minors. In just a few months, they satisfied as many as 50 customers who were requests via cell phones. The city had been divided between the two groups of pushers that were busted yesterday. One in the Calcedonia district, headed by 34-year-old Fabio Grimaldi from Salerno, and the other in the Petrosino district, controlled by Gerardo Pastore, 51 years old from Salerno. The Calcedonia district group included Vincenzo Copina, 21 years old, a close collaborator of the boss Grimaldi and who, according to the accusations, was in charge of the possession of drugs and also of cutting. Also in prison were Antonio Fuoco, 62 years old from Salerno; Rosario Chiorazzi, 47 years old from Salerno; Guido Errico, 51 years old from Nocera Superiore; Massimo Di Domenico, 50 years old from Salerno; Virginia Fortunato. In the Petrosino district, however, the close collaborator of Gerardo Pastore was Giovanni Lucich, 36 years old from Salerno. Also in prison were Alessandro Maiorino, 47 years old from Baronissi; Laura Napoletano, 49 years old from Salerno; Vincenzo Pisapia, 35 years old; Marco Russomanno, 37 years old and Rosario Santoro, 38 years old, all three from Salerno. And finally Vincenzo Senatore, 36 years old from Pellezzano. In some cases when one of the two drug dealing organizations ran out of raw material, they were helped by the other who “lent” them the stuff. Both groups had organized a real call center, with dedicated telephone numbers that received the continuous requests for narcotics and managed the subsequent deliveries that took place through other pushers who moved around like real delivery boys. Some deliveries of narcotics were brought directly to the homes of those drug addicts who were under house arrest. In order not to be discovered, coded language was used: cocaine was called “white” or “fast”, heroin was called “dark” or “slow” while methadone was called “syrup”. Some suspects managed the illicit activities with the help of other family members, in fact some arrested are united by family ties or are married or cohabiting.
