The Court of Appeal reduced the sentences of six defendants accused, on various counts, of being leaders of a new criminal group within the Bidognetti faction of the Casalesi clan. The group attempted to expand from Castel Volturno to San Nicola la Strada, an area notoriously controlled by the Belforte clan, also recruiting members of this group for extortion. Judges at the Naples Court of Appeal reduced the sentences to nine years for Ernesto Caprio of Casal di Principe, thirteen years for Gaetano Cerci of Casal di Principe, thirteen years for Gabriele Cioffi of San Nicola la Strada, eleven years for Carmine Micillo of Castel Volturno, sixteen years for Dionigi Pacifico, and eight years and six months for Americo Quadrano of Castel Volturno. The investigation involved a series of extortion attacks against a dairy farm. Investigations conducted by the Caserta Police Headquarters have demonstrated how the Bidognetti group recruited some members of the Belforte clan of Marcianise to collect protection money on the Domitian coast.
