From September 14th to 29th, the 8th edition of Ethnos, the international festival of ethnic music, returns. After the preview in July at the Maschio Angioino in Naples with the concert of the South African combo The Liberation Project created by Dan Chiorboli, with the extraordinary participation of Phil Manzanera, N'Faly Kouyate and Cisco Bellotti, the festival created and directed by Gigi Di Luca is coming to life. Concerts, workshops, dance stages, meetings and tourist itineraries will involve XNUMX municipalities in the province of Naples over the course of three weeks, in an ideal embrace that extends from Vesuvius to the entire gulf of Naples.
In addition to the municipality of San Giorgio a Cremano, the project's leader, the itinerant live concerts will also reach Bacoli, Boscotrecase, Cercola, Grumo Nevano, Massa Lubrense, Torre Annunziata and Volla, welcoming artists from Spain, France, Argentina, Iran, Albania, Angola and much of Southern Italy.
Guests on the bill include: Chicuelo, Teresa De Sio, Redi Hasa and Maria Mazzotta, Lucia de Carvalho, Ars Nova Napoli, Duo Bottasso and Simone Sims Longo, Cesare dell'Anna and Opa Cupa, Cafè Loti, Rione Junno, SuRealistas.
“Experience is the word that unites this edition of Ethnos” underlines the artistic director Gigi Di Luca. “Experience in listening, in seeing and in knowing artists and groups that mainly tell the music of the South and apparently distant cultures. Experience is above all a festival that for 24 years, despite the economic cuts, continues with strength and perseverance to invade with good music the cities of the Gulf of Naples, in the name of beauty and diversity”.
The 2019 edition of Ethnos will open on Saturday 14 September at 20.30:8 pm at Villa Vannucchi in San Giorgio a Cremano with the flamenco of one of the most appreciated guitarists of the contemporary Iberian scene: Juan Gómez “Chicuelo”. The musician originally from Barcelona will exclusively present his new solo work “Uña y carne”: XNUMX songs including bulerías, tangos, guajiras, rumbas, sevillanas, tanguillos and rondeñasthat. Joining him live, in his only Italian date, will be Joaquín Gómez (vocals), Carlos Caro (violin) and Paco de Mode (percussion).
On Sunday 15 September, instead, the Apulian pizzica, the Sicilian serenades, the Calabrian and Neapolitan tarantellas will meet the Balkan and Greek rhythms with the performance of Ars Nova Napoli in Piazza Annunziatella, in the historic centre of Boscotrecase, which closes the first weekend of shows.
In addition to the concerts, there are also several collateral activities to promote and enhance the territory. The naturalistic itinerary between the Sanctuary of Santa Maria and the Castello alle Gavete (Monte Somma) with the guide Umberto Saetta. The meeting with the Vesuvian farmers Libera Feola and Franco Mosca with a visit to the companies and tasting of typical products, the guided tour of the Oplonti Excavations by Archeoclub, the cultural-naturalistic itinerary "Walking among olive groves" by ProLoco Due Golfi.
There will also be space for workshops and meetings: “Danze del Sud” curated by Alessia Tudda, “Terra Nera” with the photographer Pino Miraglia, “Navigating the routes” from the Mediterranean to the East with Nando Citarella, Stefano Saletti and Pejman Tadayon.
Ethnos, thanks to the programming of numerous activities aimed at the meeting and communion between peoples and different languages, aims to create a bridge between the memory of the past and the vision of the future, between the tradition and the contemporaneity of art with a careful eye on the problems of migration, integration and the Mediterranean.
Born in 1995 with the intent of recovering the archaic traditions of the Vesuvian area, over the years it has expanded its range of action becoming one of the major observers of ethnic music and world music in Italy. With its itinerant formula it has always involved various sites in the Vesuvian area - from the Villas of the Golden Mile to the cultural heritage of the Vesuvius coast - enhancing them and opening them to the general public with shows, new productions and exclusive concerts.
The Ethnos festival is conceived by La Bazzarra, organized by the Municipality of San Giorgio a Cremano, financed by the Campania Region, with the collaboration of the municipalities present in the project and local associations. All scheduled events have free admission until all seats are taken.
A night of drug checks in San Giorgio a Cremano, where Carabinieri officers from the local station arrested a 20-year-old local man for possession with intent to sell narcotics. San Giorgio a Cremano – There's no resignation, but rather a clear and determined anger among the citizens who took to the streets to protest the opening of the animal incinerator. The demonstration saw the "No to the Incinerator Committee" march alongside volunteer associations and political forces to Piazza Carlo di Borbone, the city's institutional heart,…
In San Giorgio a Cremano, the intuition of two off-duty Carabinieri officers disrupted a drug dealing operation in the heart of the city center. The officers had approached a group of young people when a 27-year-old man, already known to law enforcement, recognized them and tried to quickly run away. The attempt was futile: the Carabinieri caught up with him and stopped him, proceeding with a check.
The search yielded 15 grams of hashish, already divided into doses and ready for sale. The search continued at the man's home, where another 8 grams of the same substance, a precision scale, and packaging materials were found.
