The second investigation into the “softened” reports on infrastructure has led to three house arrests and six interdictory measures. Because even after the death of 43 people, Spea, the company that deals with controls, and Aspi continued to modify the papers.
The viaducts targeted are the Pecetti on the A26, in Liguria, and the Paolillo, on the A16, in Puglia. The second investigation, however, also concerns the Moro viaduct, near Pescara, the Sei Luci and the Gargassa in Liguria and the Sarno on the A30.
The investigation into false reports focuses on several episodes linked to forms of alteration, pressure and falsification of reports on the state of the viaducts and on safety conditions, “agreed falsifications and omissions – the Guardia di Finanza specifies – aimed at concealing from the inspectors of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport relevant elements on the condition of the structures and their state of conservation – during inspection activities and within the scope of ministerial supervision – which would have led to a global inspection of the work and other precautionary measures”. “Aspi states that the viaducts are safe, but Atlantia, the parent company, “has decided to immediately start an audit of the facts, to be entrusted to a leading international company, to verify the correct application of corporate procedures by the companies and people involved”
