Livorno. Three people—a father, mother, and a twelve-year-old son—are hospitalized in serious condition following an explosion that occurred late yesterday evening in La California, a town in the municipality of Bibbona, in the Livorno area. According to initial reports, the explosion occurred following a gas leak related to a fault. According to firefighters, the explosion affected a first-floor apartment of a two-story building, causing the roof to collapse. Three people were inside the apartment at the time of the explosion: a 41-year-old businessman, his wife, a year younger than him, and their 12-year-old son. The two adults were hospitalized in the burns unit at Cisanello Hospital in Pisa, while the son was transferred to Meyer Hospital in Florence. All three are in critical condition.
