European Day Without Road Deaths: This is a new campaign, supported by the European Commission and led by Tispol (European Traffic Police Network), aimed at reducing the number of deaths and injuries on European roads. According to Tispol, driver behavior continues to be the greatest obstacle to achieving the EU's goal of a 50% reduction in road deaths and injuries by 2020 compared to 2010: distraction, poor vehicle condition, driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, cell phone use, and failure to comply with road user infrastructure and the Highway Code are the main causes of accidents on European roads. In this regard, the Campania and Basilicata Highway Police Department – Naples Section – has also joined the "EDWARD" project, sending its own expert operators and making vehicles and equipment used by the Highway Police available to students at the Rosario Livatino High School and the Ippolito Cavalcanti Hotel Management Institute, both in the San Giovanni district. The primary goal of this project is to reduce the number of accidents by encouraging responsible driving behavior among road users, thus promoting not only road safety but also, and more importantly, the protection of human life. However, the Edward project also addresses cyclists and pedestrians, whose decisions often jeopardize their own and others' safety, for example by ignoring traffic rules or taking risky shortcuts. This activity is aimed not only at ensuring the safety of motorists on the roads, but also at intensifying legal enforcement in particularly sensitive and community-sensitive areas, in relation to the delicate interests protected.
