On Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd September, the GEP – European Heritage Days will be celebrated throughout Italy, which in the 2019 edition are inspired by the theme “One two three… Art! Culture and entertainment”. Guided tours, special initiatives and extraordinary openings will be organised in state museums and cultural sites, which will be accessible with ordinary hours and costs. In addition, on Saturday, evening openings are planned with admission at the symbolic cost of 1 euro.
The Archaeological Park of Ercolano is preparing for the international event of the European Heritage Days with the daytime opening with ordinary access costs and the extraordinary evening opening at €1: Ercolano Fridays – Special #gep2019. The Park therefore does not limit itself to offering simple reduced-price admission but offers its public the evening show that has enchanted hundreds of visitors during the summer with continuous sold out.
It will thus be possible to admire the ruins of the Vesuvian town by moonlight with night-time guided tours and performances. The Park's visit program, which took place throughout the summer, co-financed by the Park with SCABEC Regione Campania, and in collaboration with the Municipality of Ercolano and numerous voluntary associations, offered guided tours of the site, enriched by light projections and video mapping reproductions of the frescoes and statues currently preserved at the National Archaeological Museum of Naples from the Bourbon excavations. Suggestive "Tableaux Vivants", curated by Teatri 35, complete this journey through the enchantments of the ancient city.
It is within the broader framework of the European Heritage Days that the Ercolano Archaeological Park wanted to offer its visitors not only the evening entrance fee of €1, but also to re-propose the suggestion of the evening itineraries, which end on Friday 20 September, also on the last evening of 21 September, with the usual convenient online purchase methods on www.ticketone.it and at the Park ticket office. The opening on Saturday 21 September will start at 20.00:24.00 pm and will last until midnight, with last entry at 23.00:XNUMX pm.
The weekend at the Park continues with the offer of a Sunday morning visit to the Ancient Theatre with the regular payment of the ticket at the special cost of €10; (tickets can be purchased in advance at the website www.ticketone.it and at the Park ticket office). This is an underground route conceived as a true exploration, with visitors descending under the eruptive material at more than 20 metres through stairs built in the Bourbon era. A journey through time conceived as a true speleological 'adventure', a physical immersion in an atmosphere that allows you to ideally retrace, by physically immersing yourself in the ancient monument, the shows that once took place inside. In addition to the remains of the ancient building, visitors can observe finds and graffiti left over the centuries by visitors who, by torchlight, crossed the tunnels and wells created in the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries to penetrate the bowels of ancient Herculaneum, and you can even admire small stalactites.
“If it is true that the theme chosen this year for the European Heritage Days represents an invitation to reflect on the well-being that comes from the cultural experience and on the benefits that the enjoyment of cultural heritage can determine in terms of fun, sharing, experimentation and escape, – declares Director Sirano – for us it is even more true that the sharing of cultural heritage is our first commandment that we carry forward strenuously and with great conviction, feeling this is the main road for the valorization of the Park”.
