Students and professional artists of historical dance will come from all over Italy to Cilento for the first time, to dance at the 16th-century baronial palace of Torchiara, in the 19th-century Hall of Mirrors, now used for music, where excellent classical music concerts are regularly held. The initiative, conceived by Angela Riccio and Antonio Palazzi, is promoted and directed by maestro Livia Ghizzoni, director of the Compagnia Italiana Teatro Danza, in collaboration with the Municipality of Torchiara, the Borgo Riccio Historic Residence, and the Ergo South cultural association. It will be an opportunity to witness one of the most fascinating performances in the Italian dance scene: the dance of the "high society" manuals of the mid-19th century. And that's not all. Visitors will also be able to admire elegant original and restored period costumes (1810 and 1860) and original 19th-century French, Scottish, English, and Russian choreographies from 19th-century dance manuals held in several Italian and French libraries. Two performances are offered to the public free of charge: Friday afternoon in the extraordinary setting of the temples of Paestum, followed by the "Grand Ball of the Sirens – at the Court of the Bourbons" on Saturday, September 14th at 9:00 PM in Torchiara. The Grand Ball of the Sirens is a spectacle of rare elegance, featuring dances choreographed from the manuals of 19th-century ballet masters, set to music by Strauss, Verdi, Rossini, and Pachelbel. The ladies will wear sumptuous ball gowns, following a very strict dress code of the time: silk, lace, taffeta, and brocade covering stiff bodices and imposing crinolines, while the gentlemen will all wear tailcoats. Spectators will be able to admire the codes that governed the great court balls, codes that include gentleness and refinement in posture, elegance and poise, 'messages' sent and received through fan games and the precision of steps in intricate choreographies such as French and English quadrilles and the wild Hungarian polkas. Livia Ghizzoni is a leading figure on the national scene: she grew up under the exceptional guidance of great classical teachers such as Nina Soldun, Vadim Desnitsky, Ekaterina Desniskaya, Bella Rachinskaya, Irina Chistiakova, and Marina Vasilieva of the St. Petersburg Academy, before continuing her training in Milan with Silvia Brioschi, at the Académie de danse classique Princesse de Monaco, and with the Victor Ullate Ballet in Madrid. His Company has participated in numerous festivals in Italy and abroad, as well as hosting lavish events in historic Italian palaces (Genoa, Bologna, Rome, Milan, Turin, Parma) and abroad (Nice, St. Petersburg). It annually inaugurates the Verdi Festival in Busseto and the Festival at the Verona Arena with a Grand Ball.
“Dance unites – says Livia Ghizzoni – and with 19th century dance I create synergy between people of different origins with different choreographic settings. I hope that here in Cilento too – concludes Ghizzoni – we can create creative collaborations between different schools, overcoming closures for a common experiential enrichment”.
"This event is a further cultural enrichment for the Cilento area - says Angela Riccio - which I would like to be increasingly attractive for artists in their various expressions. I have been moving in this direction for years and this is my commitment to enhance this wonderful land".

Summer of tight controls in Amalfi Coast and in Cilento, where the Salerno Financial Police has turned the spotlight on the world of tourist rentals. The toll is heavy: out of dozens of inspected properties, 68 were found to be irregular, while another 49 are still under investigation. This data captures a widespread and deep-rooted phenomenon, where illegal activities and non-compliance with regulations threaten not only the healthy economy, but also the safety and rights of workers.

The investigations uncovered operators completely unknown to the tax authorities, VAT evaders, and lacking any health and safety authorizations. Tax-exempt income exceeding €100 was also discovered, indicating a parallel system that is damaging the market and public coffers. Particularly significant is the violation of the National Identification Code, mandatory since 2025: in 34 cases, it was not requested, displayed, or communicated, effectively rendering the businesses invisible to the ministerial census.

Scam alert on holiday homes in Cilento

The beauty of the Cilento, with its breathtaking coastline and charming villages, attracts thousands of tourists every year. But, unfortunately, it also attracts scammers. Fenailp Turismo has raised the alarm about summer rental fraud, a rapidly growing phenomenon that is claiming victims in Ascea, Castellabate, Palinuro, and other towns.

The scheme is now tried and tested, exploiting users' trust and their desire to find a good deal. Scammers create fake listings on online platforms, using photos of homes that actually exist, but aren't theirs. Sometimes, the images are stolen directly from social media or other rental sites. Tourists, attracted by attractive prices and the apparent reliability of the property, pay deposits of up to €800. Disappointment and a bitter surprise come when it's time to take possession of the property: the house doesn't exist or doesn't belong to the fake landlord, who has since disappeared with the money.
