The MIdA Foundation—in keeping with its mission of enhancing the environmental and human resources of the region in which it operates—and in collaboration with local organizations, associations, artists, and practitioners, is launching the third edition of the "Voices from the Earth" festival. This initiative is designed to promote culture and showcase the art and talents of the region, particularly in the Vallo di Diano, Cilento, and Basilicata. Its primary goal is to raise awareness, especially among younger generations, about the major social and environmental issues of contemporary life, strengthening their connection to their historic roots and promoting the most authentic cultural components of the local context. Among the enchanting scenery of the Pertosa-Auletta Caves, in its gardens, and in the MIdA system's museums, spaces will be organized for the exchange of opinions and ideas, for personal and collective expression, for discussion, debate, and the expression of the inner worlds and languages of the diverse talents and sensibilities of those who, through different paths, have chosen not to abandon their homeland.
This year the event will be entirely dedicated to the "Languages of Silence", or all those forms of cultural, artistic and natural expression in which the multifaceted languages of silence become protagonists. Silence understood as a preferential channel of perception in listening to the soul and natural phenomena, the most authentic feeling of places and their millenary history. But also as a denial of rights, loss of memory and civil conscience, complicity in the perpetuation of actions and ideologies that undermine human dignity and the fundamental rights of the individual. These different ways of understanding and conceptualizing Silence will be explored and argued through seminars held by personalities from the world of philosophy and literature, fueling talks and debates, screening films and short films, photographic exhibitions, concerts and recreational or play activities also dedicated to children.
Among the scheduled events we recall:
Meeting with Aurelio Musi: The silences on the History of the South
Full Professor of Modern History at the Faculty of Political Sciences of the University of Salerno. Member of the board of the Società Salernitana di Storia Patria. Journalist. Collaborator of the daily newspaper “La Repubblica”. He has conducted research on the history of European institutions in the modern age, on the Spanish Mezzogiorno, on problems of methodology and history of historiography. He has been part of international research organizations (ESF, GISEM, etc.).
Screening of the short film “Padre Vostro”, by Milo Vallone, freely adapted from the story “La figliolanza” by Massimo Cortese. Followed by a debate coordinated by Lorenzo Scillitani (Univ. del Molise) on the topic. “Padre Vostro” tells the story of Angelo Lamberti, a Public Prosecutor who, after having Dario Setrani sentenced to 30 years in prison for committing a femicide against his wife, decides to take care of the couple’s two children (Francesco and Chiara). Lamberti therefore obtains custody, thus providing for the support and growth of the two children. However, he decides to do so in silence, not revealing to anyone this choice that the magistrate follows with loving constancy. Even his wife, with whom Lamberti is trying to have children, is unaware of this choice.
Concert by Riccardo Veno “The Silence of Orpheus”
Oriental and Mediterranean atmospheres, minimalism, jazz recollections and “electronic” episodes. All arranged and performed live through the use of a set of effects and loop-machines that allow the overdubbing of multiple sounds, with which Riccardo Veno creates harmonic carpets and real wind ensembles giving life to intense melodies and exciting improvisations.
“The Silence of Writing” Meeting with Diego De Silva
An Italian writer, journalist and screenwriter, he published with Einaudi the novels La donna di escort (2001, previously published by Pequod Edizioni in 1999), Certi bambini (2001, Campiello selection prize), Voglio guardare (2002), Da un'altra carne (2004), Non erano capito niente (2007, Premio Napoli – Libro dell'anno;[1] finalist for the Strega prize), Mia suo suocera beve (2010), Sono contro alle emozioni (2011), Mancarsi (2013), Terapia di coppia per amanti (2015), Divorziare con stile (2017), Superficie (2018). Certi bambini was adapted in 2004 into the film of the same name directed by the brothers Andrea and Antonio Frazzi, winner of numerous national and international awards, including the European Oscar and two David di Donatello; from Couples Therapy for Lovers, in 2017, the film of the same name directed by Alessio Maria Federici.

Meeting between different subjects and operators of the territory called to discuss their daily life lived in the internal areas. The experiences and the feeling of a dimension perceived through the channels of silence typical of marginality or denial of survival, but also the deep awareness of the privilege of living Silence as a founding prerequisite in the restoration of the sense of belonging to the land, in the preservation of the meaning of historical memory, in the urgency of restoring the balance in the relationship between human needs and Nature.
Silent visit to the Pertosa and Auletta Caves and contemporary dance in the Cave
The beauty of nature can be perceived through all our senses. The silence in such particular places as caves arouses emotions, giving impetus to the imagination and meditation, as well as to the search for the depths of Nature and Man. One of the planned visits will see the artistic performance of contemporary dance, a creation inspired by a selection of musical pieces among the most beautiful of the "classical repertoire" between 800 and 900, which are part of the collective imagination of Western classical music. In this production Ricky Bonavita tries to reinterpret through dance some musical works of the Western aesthetic-cultural heritage, to find his own point of balance between heritage and contemporaneity, which, remaining suspended between continuity and deconstruction, refers with the elusiveness of the movement to the evident fragility of our cultural heritage, but also to its extraordinary evocative power.
The following are planned during the two days: yoga and meditation workshops, workshops on the knowledge of rocks and fossils, life in the soil and in the river, workshops on cave paintings and prehistoric artists.
Photographic exhibition: with photos by Pasquale Di Maria, Ivan Castellano, Massimo Gugliuccello, Fausto Maniglia.
Art Exhibition: In line with the theme of this year's edition, the Faq-Totum association proposes an exhibition of works by the Padulese artist Maria Luisa Toscano.
Admission to the meetings, presentations and shows is free. In case of rain, the event will take place inside the SOIL MUSEUM
