Outrage and anger over the decision to grant a day off for the 18th birthday party of Ciro U., one of the three killers of the vigilante Francesco Della Corte, beaten with clubs and left on the brink of death until he died, on March 3, 2018 in Naples, by the gang that wanted to take his gun. The images of the birthday party ended up on social media, sparking a reaction of the victim's family. “It’s a disgrace, but how is it possible that a killer, after only one year in prison, is released on day release to celebrate his 18th birthday?”. The one speaking is Giuseppe, Franco Della Corte’s son. He was incredulous at the news that one of his father’s murderers was able to take advantage of day release and celebrate. “They were too soft on my father’s murderers,” he says. “I understand that it’s the law, that it was the abbreviated trial, but the sentence was already paltry. Even the prize. I understand that whoever granted him release could have done so, but I just don’t understand why.” “That’s a murderer, he killed my father, a radiant man, a parent who passed on values to us,” he emphasizes. “This is how we lost our father and they caused us such pain that it’s hard to accept, and even an 18th birthday party? We continue to ask for justice,” he adds. “He has to serve his sentence in prison, he can’t come and go using prizes. We are talking about a murderer, a kid-killer. What example is being given? Another kid who now sees that this murderer has gone out to celebrate his 18th birthday – he says – feels he can do whatever he wants. What stops him from committing a robbery or even worse? The law is too soft on minors – he concludes – Now I will be even closer to my mother and my sister. Something has to move and knowing that everyone is close to us gives us the strength to move forward”.
