He's used to receiving awards, but yesterday Neapolitan Ciro Magnetti was beaming when he was crowned World Champion of Pizza Makers, winning the 18th Caputo Trophy - Neapolitan Pizza STG. The final, which concluded this evening at the Napoli Pizza Village, runs until Sunday the 22nd on the Neapolitan seafront. Last year, he came first in the seasonal pizza category; in 2016, he came close to winning, finishing second in the Gluten-Free Pizza category; and in 2015, he won the Pizza by the Meter category with a pizza he named "Terra Mia," a tribute to Pino Daniele, celebrating the ingredients of Campania. "They are the strength of our region," he declared after his victory, and in fact he named his pizzeria in Melito, in the province of Naples, after them. And it is precisely the tomato, "red gold," that is the star of today's event at the Pizza Village. Or rather, they will be the 54 new influencers of Italian gastronomy present: some of the more than 150 collaborators of the company “Ciao – Il Pomodoro di Napoli,” who work on the production of preserves and who have become stars on Instagram.
