Francesco Di Leva stars in Mario Martone's "Il sindaco del Rione Sanità" (The Mayor of the Sanità District), a film he won as Best Actor at the Venice Biennale. The film is based on Eduardo De Filippo's play, and Di Leva, in a commentary, explains how contemporary Eduardo is. "Sixty years ago, he was already telling young people starting out in crime that it's absolutely not worth it, and proof of this is that today in Naples there are no forty-year-old bosses because they're either in prison or dead." The project that brought Eduardo's play to the big screen, as Di Leva recalls, "was born four years ago thanks to the will of the Nest company of San Giovanni a Teduccio and the courage of the great Luca De Filippo, to whom I extend all my affection and respect, and the work subsequently continued by Carolina Rosi." And it is precisely the Nest boys who deserve recognition from Massimiliano Gallo, another protagonist of the film, who also won the 2019 Francesco Pasinetti Award for Best Actor in Venice. "The Nest kids deserve credit for shortening the city and bringing the outskirts closer," Gallo emphasized, "clearly sending us the message that a playwright like Eduardo is immortal and must be continually re-proposed in plays that shouldn't be left in drawers, turning them into literature, but should be approached as plays and re-proposed."
