Director Mario Martone, protagonist Francesco Di Leva and the entire cast will present a preview in Naples, at the Cinema Modernissimo, on Friday 27 September at 21 pm, of “Il sindaco del Rione Sanità”.
Welcomed with enthusiasm by audiences and critics at the seventy-sixth Venice International Film Festival, the film, based on Eduardo De Filippo's masterpiece, will be in Italian theaters on September 30 and October 1 and 2, a special event by Nexo Digital. After having staged Eduardo's famous text in the theater in 2017, directing Francesco Di Leva in the role of the Mayor and the actors of the Compagnia del Nest of Naples, Martone made the film adaptation, giving life to a highly topical film capable of telling the eternal struggle between good and evil.
Antonio Barracano, a “man of honor” who knows how to distinguish between “good people and scoundrels,” is “The Mayor” of the Sanità district. With his charismatic influence and the help of his doctor friend, he administers justice according to his own personal criteria, outside the State and above the parties. Those who “hold saints” go to Heaven and those who do not go to Don Antonio, this is the rule. When Rafiluccio Santaniello, the baker’s son, shows up in despair, determined to kill his father, Don Antonio recognizes in the young man the same feeling of revenge that had obsessed him as a boy and then changed him forever. The Mayor decides to intervene to reconcile father and son and save them both.

The Mayor of the Sanità district is an INDIGO FILM production with RAI CINEMA and MALÌA in collaboration with ELLEDIEFFE SRL – TEATRO STABILE DI TORINO – NEST, with the contribution of the REGIONAL COUNCIL OF CAMPANIA LR28/2018, with the collaboration of the FILM COMMISSION REGIONE CAMPANIA and with the patronage of the Municipality of Naples.
