The American multinational has however confirmed its intention to proceed with the 350 layoffs
Extraordinary redundancy fund extended until November 10 with 350 layoffs averted, but "overall the industrial and employment situation remains very critical". It is a 'grey smoke' that comes from the meeting at the Ministry of Economic Development between unions and the top management of Jabil, the company based in Marcianise that in recent months announced its intention to lay off half of its 700 workers.
"The Ministry - explain the Fiom Cgil of Caserta - has confirmed the possibility of obtaining a 6-month extension of the social safety net, specifying that currently there is economic coverage until November 10 (it was expiring on September 23, ed.). The remaining period of six months will most likely be financed later, subject to the central government's approval". A new framework agreement has therefore been signed between the unions and the company which provides for "the exit with incentivized exoduses and a relocation plan that will affect all workers".
Fiom Cgil highlights the still very serious critical issues, because the agreement signed "has the merit of making the plant safe - the union explains - however the industrial and employment situation as a whole continues to be worrying". In fact, the company has not backtracked on its desire to start the redundancies.
At the end of the summit, a new meeting was scheduled at the Ministry which will be preparatory to guaranteeing and certifying the relocation program and the presentation of the industrial plan to relaunch the Marcianise plant.
