The Provincial Command of the Guardia di Finanza of Naples, as part of the intensification of economic control services in the territory, has identified, in the Nola area, in the Polvica area, in collaboration with colleagues from the ROAN (Air and Naval Operations Department) of Naples, a plantation of "cannabis indica" well camouflaged behind thick vegetation.
At the end of the operation, the owners of the land, five individuals of Neapolitan origin, residing between Cicciano and Pomigliano d'Arco, were reported to the Judicial Authority for production and trafficking of narcotic substances, and the plot of land, the marijuana plants and the cultivation equipment, a 2-liter watering can, were seized.
The activities began with a reconnaissance carried out by specialists from the Naples Air Section, thanks to which the Nola Group's financial police identified a plantation, covering an area of over 1500 square meters, consisting of 13 large-stemmed marijuana plants, approximately 3 meters tall, ready to be harvested and transformed into a narcotic substance that, if placed on the market, would have generated approximately 260.000 euros.
Cicciano – Another attack on a bank in the Naples area, at a time when the entire region is experiencing a worrying escalation in bank attacks. Last night, around 3:30 a.m., Carabinieri from the Nola Company's mobile radio unit responded to a call at Via Nola 68, in Cicciano, for a…
Eighteen thousand five hundred euros. This is the cost, according to the Naples District Anti-Mafia Directorate, of the package of votes promised by the Russo clan to Andrea Manzi, then candidate. mayor In Casamarciano, Manzi, 65, currently an opposition city councilor, ran on the Casamarciano Libera e Giusta list and finished third in the municipal race with 28,1% of the vote, behind the subsequently elected mayor, Clemente Primiano, and Carmela De Stefano. Investigators suspect that Manzi accepted a promise to procure votes made by Sebastiano De Capua, a suspected member of the Russo clan and currently under a custodial sentence. In exchange, according to the prosecution, he agreed to pay €18.500 and to "make the future administration available" to serve the interests and needs of the criminal group if elected. This segment of the investigation is part of the broader operation that, at dawn, led to the execution of 44 precautionary measures—34 in prison and 10 under house arrest—against members and supporters of the Russo and Licciardi clans, historically rooted in the Nolano area and the Neapolitan hinterland. The raid was conducted by the Carabinieri of the Castello di Cisterna group, with the support of approximately 250 soldiers, under the coordination of the Naples Anti-Mafia Directorate.
Despite the picture reconstructed by investigators, the preliminary investigations judge of the Court of Naples, Isabella Iselli, rejected the request for a precautionary measure against Manzi. The request was made by public prosecutors Henry John Woodcock and Vincenzo Toscano, who are in charge of the case regarding the alleged influence of the Russo clan on the Casamarciano vote. The preliminary investigations judge's decision currently rules out restrictions on the opposition councilor's personal freedom, and he remains under investigation and will have to defend himself in the proceedings. The order, signed by Iselli, is the same one that ordered the dozens of arrests made today and represents one of the first judicial milestones in an investigation destined to have political repercussions in the municipalities involved.
The Camorra and the Silence Agreement: Politics, Votes, and the Russo Clan's Business in the Agro Nolano Area
The District Anti-Mafia Directorate's major operation, which led to the arrest of 44 people, didn't just uncover crimes and acts of intimidation. It revealed the workings of a Camorra that had learned to speak little and have a strong impact, using more elegant, almost "managerial" methods, without relinquishing—when necessary—the power of control.
