From 20 to 26 September, the Army Commissariat School was deployed with the Mobile Field Vehicles Battalion in the area located in “Campitello” in the municipality of Sant'Agata dé Goti (BN) for the exercise called “SCUCOMM 2019”. The purpose of the exercise was to test on the ground the operational capacity of a logistics module at company level of the Mobile Field Vehicles Battalion in the event of intervention in public disasters in collaboration with local populations. In particular, the aim was to train personnel in the deployment and management of a field logistics module with management of a canteen, bakery, laundry, toilets and showers, in self-sustained mode, as well as to verify the completeness and efficiency of the assets in terms of personnel, means and materials. In this regard, the types of activities and intervention methods that the Army and in particular the Commissariat School were able to implement in crisis zones in the event of public disasters were simulated. In addition to the primary training purposes, the exercise aimed to strengthen the already strong ties with the territory but above all to build an important relationship of synergy and exchange with the students of the 1st (third year of middle school) and 2nd grade (IV and V) schools of the Municipality of Sant'Agata dé Goti. In fact, following agreements made with the Municipality and the schools, the Open Day activities were carried out on 23 and 24 September, in which a total of approximately 600 students participated. During the Open Day to understand “Who is a Soldier”, the video of the Army General Staff of the diary “I Am a Soldier” was shown to the students, which aroused the students' keen interest, as demonstrated by the various questions they asked, especially regarding the activities that military personnel carry out in peacekeeping missions and in the event of public disasters. The young students also wanted to leave a concrete testimony of their gratitude towards the Army, by giving the staff of the Commissariat School various drawings and graphic works depicting the different moments of the activities they witnessed. The training activity carried out during the exercise was also illustrated in a brief briefing preparatory to the visit to the "field", where the staff of the Commissariat School showed the students in concrete terms the activities and characteristics of the field mobile vehicles deployed, in terms of efficiency and capacity. For purely demonstrative purposes, the bakery complex organized the tasting of some baked products offered to the populations in the crisis area, using the food that was donated, for the occasion, by the Municipality of Sant'Agata dé Goti. A similar activity was also carried out during the media day on the 24th, which was attended by representatives of the local press and the Mayor of the host Municipality, accompanied by representatives of the Administration. In particular, the Commander of the Commissariat School, Brig. Gen. Francesco RICCARDI, after the screening of the video called “IoSonoUnSoldato”, in addition to illustrating the aims of the exercise, highlighted the role and tasks that the Army carries out in public disaster operations, with references to the activities carried out by the Commissariat School at a national level and in crisis zones during peace operations. At the end, the press and local authorities visited the training camp using the same methods observed during the Open Day. The Mayor of Sant'Agata dei Goti, Giovannina PICCOLI, emphasized the fundamental importance of collaboration and dialogue between public administrations and local authorities, highlighting, in this particular case, the crucial role of the Italian Army in addressing issues related to citizen safety in the event of disasters and for the outstanding and significant work carried out during peacekeeping missions abroad.
