The Videoclip Sessions competition, curated by the editorial staff of www.freakoutmagazine.it, a historic Italian music magazine coordinated by Giulio Di Donna, returns for its second year. Following the success of the first edition, which saw Portuguese director João Pombeiro win with the song "Back to Nature" by Nightmares On Wax, the prestigious Neapolitan film and audiovisual festival offers a fascinating exploration of the diverse world of music videos. Specifically, it explores the many visual productions from around the world, demonstrating how vital the need to produce video works to convey music remains today. Eighteen countries are represented, and 60 works are selected from the more than 600 video clips submitted to a jury composed of Tuscan Michele Faggi, content manager at Indie-eye.it magazine; Rai journalist Cecilia Donadio; and Alfredo Capuano, director of the Cuore di Napoli festival and professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples. In an era where video consumption is limited to smartphone screens and inadequate audio, the desire to reimagine videos by young, established video makers in cinematic form is growing. A strong presence of genre clips is evident: trap and rap capture the current phenomenon.
Among the competing videos we find the works of the Italians Max Gazzè, Sick Tamburo, /handlogic, Egon, Gio Evan, Le Capre a Sonagli, Assalti Frontali, In Arte Gibilterra but also the return of the winner of the last edition, the Portuguese director João Pombeiro who proposes the new video of Nightmares On Wax. The 2D work of a Chilean band with Chino Moreno of Deftones on vocals stands out, as well as that of the German-Canadian star Alice Merton and the Spanish star India Martínez. The group of Neapolitan artists is large with: Libera Velo, Hapax, Capone&BungtBangt, Ferraniacolor, Napoli Milionaria who propose the absolute preview of the work “'A nuttata è passa”, a tribute to the city and its patron saint, Indubstry, Profugy, Malatja, Drakmah, Tidal Waves and Carl Hyle.
For this second edition the success was unexpected with over 600 video clips entered into the competition, but among these there will be only one winner.
The sixty selected videos come from Italy, Spain, Lithuania, Germany, Russia, United States, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Poland, Ecuador, Hungary, Ireland, Chile, England, South Africa, Slovakia, Iran and Croatia. The group of genre clips is very strong: trap and rap that photograph the phenomenon of the moment and in particular with works from France, Israel and Colombia; while videos that are openly anti-racist and pro-gender appear among the selected titles, proving to be particularly impactful. For the Naples Film Festival, it is appropriate to investigate the world of music videos. This short audiovisual form, which brings together music and images, has become an essential element for conveying and promoting music 2.0. Despite the end of music TV, the video clip has regenerated and thanks to social networking platforms, the diffusion, and the knowledge of new means and techniques for the production, the quantity and quality of videos has increased. By now the promotional, recording and distribution process of the music market, passes inexorably from this tool that rapidly conveys the contents with the aim of making fans or the media appreciate and deepen the musical choices that artists make. The Videoclip Sessions are a section that meets the need to grant visibility and opportunity for comparison especially to a group of authors who, by choice or for other reasons, orbit far from the "institutional" channels, preferring to break away and operate in more "independent" fields and sectors. The sixty videoclips will be screened - in blocks of 15 - on September 25, 26, 27, 28 at the Castel dell'Ovo in Naples within the Biopics3 - The End Exhibition by Fabio Govoni. Admission is free. The times of the videoclip screenings and the program of the meetings:
September 25th – from 17pm to 18.30pm while on September 26th – 27th – 28th from 16.00pm to 17.30pm
