Let's clean the world from fires, polluters must pay. This was the message of this morning's flash mob launched by volunteers from Legambiente's Eboli and Battipaglia chapters. Following the five fires that have struck the Battipaglia industrial area in the past two years, threatening the health of residents and the local development of agriculture and agribusiness in the Sele Plain, Legambiente activists, carrying signs with slogans like "Let's clean the world from fires, environmental crimes, and climate change," have once again turned the spotlight on this phenomenon of fires in waste storage, sorting, and recycling facilities. This is a national phenomenon: more than 300 facilities have been affected by flames in the past three years.
"We ask that the plants that treat waste in the Piana del Sele become under special surveillance like those present in the provinces of Caserta and Naples. There is a need to have permanent garrisons on the territory, but also and above all to implement prevention and control actions to ensure compliance with the rules of existing plants. We ask the bicameral anti-mafia commission, which investigates fires in the plants, to come on a mission to Battipaglia", declare the activists of Legambiente.
