Sarno. The alleged perpetrators of the fire that broke out Friday on the Saretto hill in Sarno, in the province of Salerno, have a name and surname. The Carabinieri of Nocera Inferiore have six boys identified, Investigators believe the gang is responsible for the massive blaze that forced the evacuation of approximately two hundred people. The pine forest, the area's green lung, was largely destroyed, and two thousand people risked losing their homes. A few days later, the fear subsided, but for many hours the flames kept the population in suspense. The devastation immediately appeared to be caused by malicious intent. "It was very young people who set fire to the Saretto. Today's truth stings as much as the fire that destroyed our beloved mountain," commented Sarno's mayor, Giuseppe Canfora, taking to social media to express his thoughts: "Young arsonists on one side and young volunteers on the other. It seems like a struggle between good and evil; between barbarism and humanity; between superficiality and generous sacrifice." "These have been turbulent, difficult, and complicated days," the mayor recalls. "Today, a mosaic of pieces of truth is being pieced together that leaves us shocked by the damage, the methods, the involvement of our city's young people, and the confessions given." And "I will not speak of 'a generation,' out of great respect for the many children of Sarno who are our pride, our future, and I also urge you, my dear fellow citizens, not to do so." But the mayor's stance toward those responsible for the fire is harsh: "Whoever destroyed our land 'for a joke' (that's how they would have justified everything) deserves to be identified, judged, and convicted for their individual responsibility, not generalized." Therefore, "we trust in justice, from which we demand the harshest, exemplary, and unremitting penalties, in full awareness of the grave crime committed." "I thank the investigators," the mayor concluded on Facebook, "for their swift and tireless work. We confidently await further clarification from the investigation." The investigation is being conducted by the military of the Nocera Inferiore Territorial Unit with the support of the Forestry Corps. From the initial evidence gathered through surveys, seizures of material, and gathering information, a significant circumstantial framework has emerged that would implicate the group of teenagers. The adult's position is being examined by Public Prosecutor Anna Chiara Fasano of the Nocera Inferiore Ordinary Prosecutor's Office, while the position of all the others has been entrusted to Public Prosecutor Angelo Frattini of the Salerno Juvenile Court Prosecutor's Office.
