"After 10 years, the Roman road found in Marigliano, between via Sentino and via Nuova del Bosco, is still unprotected and undeveloped. The Mibac should take initiatives." The young Five Star Movement MP, Gianfranco Di Sarno, member of the Justice Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, has presented a question to the Minister of Cultural Heritage Dario Franceschini to ask for clarifications on the lack of protection and valorization of the archaeological area of the road "ab Regio ad Capuam" discovered in Marigliano, in the province of Naples, in 2009. The important Roman artery, built starting in 132 BC, was discovered by chance during the infrastructure works in the area for production settlements. The systematic excavation in 2010 brought to light a straight stretch of the Roman road, well preserved, oriented N80°W towards the ancient city of Suessula, (in the municipality of Acerra) which was about 5 meters wide and paved with large limestone stones. The even more incredible discovery was the identification of a series of buildings and cult areas facing the Roman road, built with large blocks of yellow tuff. Soon, however, the important archaeological discoveries were forgotten and the site was abandoned, without protection and without any form of use. For years the associations' complaints went unheard and the appeals of intellectuals fell on deaf ears. Now Di Sarno is asking Franceschini for explanations on the delays that risk "compromising the local system of archaeological protection and enhancement", urging concrete conservation interventions.
