In Marigliano, in the Pontecitra neighborhood, Carabinieri and Municipal Police officers discovered a man living illegally on a municipal property—the former sports center—a short distance from a preschool. All kinds of waste had been dumped, and families of carnival workers were camped out in five trailers. The Carabinieri verified that a 58-year-old man from the neighborhood, already known to law enforcement, had moved into the building on that site and was using a cart to collect all kinds of waste from the city, which he then piled there. Inside and outside the former sports center, waste such as iron, steel, wood, and plastic, as well as packaging and demolition waste, had been dumped. The building and the waste were seized, and the 58-year-old was reported for illegal waste management and abandonment. Regarding the five caravans, it emerged that they were inhabited by three families of carnival workers who, to ensure their access to running water, had connected a 200-meter-long plastic pipe directly to a water meter. The 58-year-old man also used this supply. Carabinieri officers and officers called in staff from Gori, the public water company, to disconnect the illegal connection and then reported a 59-year-old man from Montesarchio (province of Benevento), a 58-year-old woman from Naples, and a 61-year-old man from Marigliano for aggravated theft, as well as the 58-year-old man already reported. Furthermore, the four reported individuals were fined administratively for illegally disposing of waste into the public sewer system.
