A young black man committed suicide this afternoon at approximately 17:20 PM, shooting himself in the head with the gun of a security guard on duty in the tunnel of the Tiburtina metro station. According to reports, the suicide bomber first attacked the security guard with a knife and, after stealing the weapon, shot himself. The 55-year-old security guard, originally from Caserta, who worked for Italpol, was hospitalized with critical condition at the Umberto I hospital. The security guard injured this afternoon at the Tiburtina station is conscious and not in danger of dying. He was taken to the Umberto I hospital with critical condition, where he suffered multiple stab wounds to the neck. The motives that led to the attack and subsequent suicide of the young attacker are still unclear. "I was walking through the beginning of the subway tunnel and I heard a shot. I saw a black man lying there with blood on his head," a train driver said. "Next to him was a knife and a gun. And there was a security guard with a wound to the stomach."
Giuseppe Alviti, leader of the association of private guards, had a very harsh comment: "The carnage of security guards continues, we will all have to stop for a month to protest harshly inside parliament".
“Services like the one the colleague was carrying out today at the Tiburtina metro B station should be carried out by guards who have specific training and protection. When he was attacked, he was alone. Was the service arranged like this? Did the Police Headquarters, which must approve the services, know that the colleague was alone carrying out the service? And was the Railway Police, which supervises these services, aware of the methods of the service? There should be at least two operators involved in these situations, similar to what happens for the police forces in the railway sector”. Thus, in a note, Vincenzo Del Vicario, national secretary of Savip, an autonomous private security union. “No one seems to care about the security guards – he concludes – neither the Rome Police Headquarters nor the Ministry of the Interior. Therefore, there is the responsibility of the criminals but there is also that of those who, in conditions of risk, let us be sent to the slaughter”.
