"No one can believe in continuous spontaneous combustion as the origin of fires in waste treatment plants. Instead, it is evident and absolutely plausible that the direction is by organized crime, especially 'ndrangheta and camorra and this happens both in Veneto and Lombardy". This is what Nicola Morra said today at the International Forum on the Economy of Waste promoted by the Polieco consortium.
"If some territories have become over the years a dump for illicit trafficking, as happened in Campania through the Bidognetti clan and company trafficking in waste from Tuscany, it is clear - Morra underlined - that those who were supposed to control did not control. The institutions are easily infiltrated and infiltrated by politicians who do not serve the collective interest but that of the clans. If then some prosecutors who should instead investigate and block certain trafficking are also distracted, then the situation is truly serious".
The president of the parliamentary Anti-Mafia commission then focused on Calabria, where "some of the companies that deal with waste management spend money and time in football clubs that allow them to carry forward dynamics that would otherwise be opposed".
