Naples. Ponticelli and Barra are mourning the death of 37-year-old Marii De Meo, who died last night in a car accident on Via Palermo in Ponticelli. The young man, originally from the Conocal neighborhood, was in a car with two other injured people. He was sitting in the back seat when, due to high speed, the driver, a 51-year-old acquaintance of his, who is now under investigation, lost control of the car and crashed into the guard rail. Mario De Meo was violently thrown out of the window, and the impact on the pavement was fatal. He died instantly. Attempts to revive him by ambulance personnel who arrived on the scene to treat the injured were unsuccessful. The driver was transported to the nearby Ospedale del Mare, while a 27-year-old woman was taken to Cardarelli Hospital, but her life is not in danger. Naples municipal police officers, who are conducting the investigation, have reviewed footage from surveillance cameras in the area to determine if other cars were involved in the accident. The death of Mario (who a few years ago had lost a brother to whom he was very close) left a mark on the Conocal neighborhood, where he was known as a helpful and unconventional person. Another brother, Diego, works as a porter with the Paranza Insuperabile in Barra and was preparing with his friends for the next Ballata dei Gigli. The entire paranza rallied around him and his family.
