Naples. A war among the poor has erupted following the publication of the ranking of sixty new nurses and healthcare workers hired at the Cardarelli Hospital. Temporary workers who have been employed for years at Campania's hospitals, having not been regularized, fear losing their jobs. Some have chained themselves together in protest. Today, the union representative of Fials, Lello Pavone, intervened on the matter, writing: “Dear President, most illustrious generals of Campania, the final rankings of some competitions for both nurses and healthcare assistants are finally ready. This represents great and important news for our region, news that can finally change our disastrous healthcare system for the better, it can restore dignity not only to thousands of unemployed young people, but also to the care provided to our citizens/patients, because as everyone knows, having more human resources, especially nurses, healthcare assistants, and all the other professionals in the sector, means providing better care, quality care.
What we, as a trade union organization, are therefore asking for is to re-evaluate and review the very concept of personnel needs, which is still based solely and exclusively on economic savings. Instead, we ask to look at this concept more from a healthcare point of view, more from the patient's point of view, because by doing so we will discover that in Campania many more operators are needed than what some technicians have currently considered, recent studies and research have confirmed that more nurses, more healthcare assistants means a 30% reduction in the risk of patient death. English: And not only that, it means more safety, more quality and more humanization of care, it means less risk, less errors, less hospital infections, less days of hospitalization and above all less costs (extraordinary), but not only that, we invite you to review the need for personnel taking into account that not only hospitals exist, but that these operators could relaunch everything that concerns the territory, home care and continuity of care, in short we ask you for a revolution in the way of interpreting the very concept of need no longer linked to the staff but rather to the patient, by doing so, we will succeed in two fundamental objectives for our region and for its health care, that is, on the one hand to give even more work to young health workers keeping everyone in and not excluding anyone from the world of work both the competition winners and all the precarious workers who up to now have tried to guarantee the famous LEA, the minimum levels of care, among a thousand difficulties, and on the other hand to make our health care better, more efficient and effective but above all more human, what our citizens ask of us is fair and equal health care. for everyone, in short, a great public health system that brings everyone together without excluding anyone, a health system that adds and does not subtract, avoiding all those wars between the poor that are starting to emerge, reminding everyone that the very concept of health brings precariousness, unemployment as forms of pathology that we, you and above all politics must know how to cure”. Neapolitan trade unionist Giuseppe Alviti, member of the Health Commission of the National Federation of Workers, also spoke. “In Campania healthcare, the war between the poor cannot continue. Temporary workers who have been guaranteeing Lea for years risk losing their jobs to make room for winners of public notices with permanent contracts. It is right that the permanent rankings are used and exhausted but, at the same time, it is necessary to find a path for the stabilization of precarious workers, considering that in the Campania region there is a shortage of over ten thousand units, five thousand of which are social health workers". “I sent a letter to ask President De Luca to urgently intervene to ensure that fixed-term contracts are renewed, while waiting for a solution that leaves no one homeless, given that the regional government's aim is to eliminate all forms of precariousness by activating stabilization,” concludes Alviti, leader of the National Federation of Workers.
