Naples. Demetrio Sartori, the leader of the D'Amico clan from San Giovanni a Teduccio, is among the 13 individuals identified and served with a precautionary measure for the massive brawl that occurred last April 5th in the Salemo-Fuorni prison. On that occasion, two groups clashed: one composed of 10 inmates from Salerno and the other of three from Naples. Immediately after the brawl, all were transferred to other detention facilities. Three of the 13 suspects had even been released but were tracked down in Salerno, Pagani, and San Giovanni a Teduccio. Now, however, they have again been served with a precautionary measure. They are accused, to varying degrees, of resisting arrest and assaulting a public official, criminal damage, and robbery. Some of them, in fact, managed to steal the keys to some cells from prison officers to persuade other inmates to join the brawl. The fight erupted after the beating of a Neapolitan inmate. Only the timely intervention of the prison police officers and the director, who also suffered a hand injury, prevented the worst. Surveillance footage and the testimony of prison officers were crucial in identifying the participants in the brawl.
Five months after those acts of violence, the Prosecutor's Office closes the circle and puts 5 people under investigation, reached yesterday morning by a precautionary custody measure in cell. Only three were free and were therefore handcuffed: they are Demetrio Sartori, 13 years old, a native of San Giorgio a Cremano and considered a leading member of the D'Amico clan, the 35-year-old Paganese Vincenzo Contaldo and the 29-year-old Salerno native Giulio Savastano.
Another 10 were and remain in prison. The blitz was signed by State Police officers who executed an order from investigating judge Giovanna Pacifico of the Court of Salerno, accepting the requests of prosecutor Luigi Cannavaie. The recipients also include Salvatore Velotti, a 28-year-old from Naples, Alfonso Rubino, a 25-year-old from Naples, Francesco Memoli, a 30-year-old from Salerno, Luigi Pastore, a 20-year-old from Salerno. Salvatore Pepe, a 20-year-old from Pagani, Matteo Fortunato, a 37-year-old from Salerno, Gianluca Forino, a 34-year-old from Pagani, Massimiliano Schiavone from Salerno and Gennaro Ferraro, a 28-year-old from Salerno. It was a clash between inmates from Naples and Salerno. The day before, a young man from Naples had been attacked by other “guests” of Fuorni on the second floor, section B, mostly from Salerno. The next day's brawl was the response of the Neapolitan inmates. The violent fight, in which director Rita Romano was injured, took place in the First section of the prison, where inmates accused of non-serious crimes were held. The intervention of numerous Penitentiary Police officers to restore calm was inevitable and also providential. The inmates of Salerno and Agro sought and obtained contact with their rivals after having obtained the keys to the detention area where their opponents were held three times: the first time to let their section mates out, then to gain access to the opposing section and finally to enter the "Neapolitans'" section A and engage in a brawl with them. The section in question was devastated by the suspects who destroyed everything they found, even setting off a fire extinguisher to avoid being identified. It was possible to restore order only thanks to the intervention of the staff on duty and the director of the Salerno prison herself. The keys were taken from the prison police officers.
