The Prevention Department of the ASL Napoli 1 Centro has been activated to investigate the discovery of 27 pigeon carcasses and two cats in a public garden on Via Nicolardi, in the Colli Aminei neighborhood of Naples. The General Management of the ASL Napoli 1 Centro announced this. "At 8:20 this morning," explains ASL Director General Ciro Verdoliva, "the Animal Health and Veterinary Hospital Unit, headed by Dr. Marina Pompameo, was activated. Technical staff recovered 27 pigeon carcasses and two cat carcasses." The veterinarian from the ASL Napoli 1 Centro Veterinary Hospital performed a preliminary X-ray examination of the animal carcasses, ruling out gunshot wounds as the cause of death. Doctors from the Livestock Hygiene and Livestock Production Unit, headed by Dr. Vincenzo Caputo, then traveled to Via Nicolardi to conduct epidemiological investigations to protect public health and animal welfare and to take any further action, pursuant to the ministerial ordinance governing the matter. The animal carcasses were delivered to the Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute of Southern Italy in Portici (NAPLES) for investigations into the causes of death due to suspected poisoning.
