The Provincial Command of Naples, as part of the intensification of economic control activities in the territory, seized, during three separate operations, almost 9 quintals of contraband cigarettes and arrested 6 responsible parties, three Italian citizens and three Ukrainians, for the illicit possession of tobacco intended for sale.
In particular, the financial police of the Nola Group, during a roadside check, identified, cleverly hidden in a false bottom created in the rear compartment of the driving cabin of a truck, 13.800 packets of Ukrainian-made “Marlboro” cigarettes without the state stamp, for a total weight of 276 kg.
The driver and the occupants, 3 Ukrainian citizens, aged 51 and 52, who immediately showed signs of nervousness and declared, generically, that they were headed to Greece without justifying the purpose of the trip, were taken to the Naples – Poggioreale prison.
A similar fate also befell two citizens, aged 2 and 39, originally from Naples, from whom the Ottaviano Company seized, between San Giuseppe Vesuviano and Palma Campania, 33 kg of foreign manufactured tobacco, identified inside a warehouse found to be at their disposal.
The responsible parties have been placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Nola for the direct trial.
At the same time, the Casalnuovo Company, after having identified and followed a van whose driver, at the sight of the military, had shown signs of agitation, seized a load of 25 cases of “Regina” cigarettes, weighing over 250 kg, without the State Monopolies mark and bearing the health protection instructions in English.
In this case, by order of the Judicial Authority, the 45-year-old originally from Casoria driving the van with specific precedents, was subjected to the measure of house arrest.
All the contraband tobacco seized during the operations conducted by the Neapolitan Guardia di Finanza falls into the category of the so-called “cheap whites”, original cigarettes with trademarks registered in the respective countries of production but which could not be sold in Italy or within the countries of the European Union, as they do not comply with the minimum safety standards required by community legislation.
These are further confirmations, on the one hand, of the persistence of the phenomenon of cigarette smuggling from Eastern Europe, both in terms of retail and wholesale trade, and, on the other, of the effectiveness of the constant repressive action implemented by the Guardia di Finanza.
