"How can the municipal administration, which should care about the health of its citizens, continue to postpone an urgent intervention to contain the serious health and environmental emergency problem that is occurring in the former NATO area in Poggioreale. The situation has reached an unprecedented level of severity and, certainly, we cannot continue to be satisfied with the vague responses of Palazzo San Giacomo which, in fact, would have all the tools to be able to intervene. We will immediately file a complaint with the Public Prosecutor's Office to shed full light on the matter". This is what Roberta Giova and Flavio De Cicco, respectively municipal councilor and municipal councilor of the "La Citta" group of Naples, affirm.
“We are talking - explain Giova and De Cicco - about a completely abandoned area, where illegal dumping, asbestos, eternit, waste materials, tire residues, toxic sewage and waste of all sorts, combined with the fires of recent months have generated a real environmental catastrophe. We are aware that the entire area is subject to litigation but, while waiting for justice to take its course, there are all the grounds to be able to do something. It is no longer tolerable that citizens witness the inertia of the main city institution, which in these cases, according to current legislation, should have the duty to adopt an urgent measure to secure the area. The law, in fact, expressly provides for the possibility of resorting to contingent and urgent ordinances in the event of health or public hygiene emergencies. Why doesn't the Administration resort to it? Why doesn't it intervene, as it did for the Marinella park, to at least secure the area?”
"The right to health, guaranteed by our Constitution - they conclude - cannot continue to be ignored and the Administration has the duty to protect it with all the tools in its possession. This is why, after even today in the Commission, we have been given insufficient answers and far from any effective and resolutive intervention of the problem, the only way left to us is to file a complaint with the Prosecutor's Office. The health and safety of citizens are sacrosanct rights and we will not stop until they are guaranteed through a complete remediation of the entire area".

The two-year-old boy is in critical condition following the heart transplant performed on December 23rd with an organ…
