There are over 200 works by Andy Warhol that Neapolitans and tourists will be able to admire from tomorrow until February 23, 2020 at the Basilica della Pietrasanta, in the heart of the historic center of Naples. The exhibition, promoted by the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Naples, under the aegis of the Archdiocese of Naples, is produced and organized by the Arthemisia Group with Eugenio Falcioni and in collaboration with the Pietrasanta Polo culturale onlus association and Art Motors. The exhibition gives the public a complete vision of the artistic production of the American genius who revolutionized the concept of a work of art starting from the post-war period: immortal icons and portraits, polaroids and acetates, drawings and the world of music, the brand and Italy. In seven sections, the pop world that marked the rise of Warhol as the artist who radically overturned any previous aesthetic definition through myths of the star system and merchandising such as the timeless Campbell's Soup, the silkscreen portrait of Marylin, the famous silkscreens of Mao from 1972 and the very famous Flowers from 1964 arrives in the capital of Campania. "Visitors will find all of Warhol's iconic works, all of his great masterpieces - said Iole Siena, president of Arthemisia - in a pop, gritty installation that marries with the baroque architecture of this church, a very particular and internationally recognized container such as Pietrasanta". The sections of the exhibition are: Icons, Portraits, Drawings, Warhol and Italy, Warhol and the brand, Music and finally Polaroid and acetates which includes portraits of great names in fashion such as Valentino, Versace, Armani, but also in sports such as Muhammad Ali and in cinema such as Sylvester Stallone. "Warhol has represented some moments in the history of our city, including tragedies and difficult passages - recalled the councilor Nino Daniele - thus cementing an intellectual, artistic and ethical relationship. I am sure that this beautiful exhibition will be another important moment of great participation. For some years - he concluded - Naples is in Italy and in Europe a city that stands out for a cultural offering of the highest level".
