Naples. Antonio De Maria, a 51-year-old from Ercolano already known to law enforcement, was arrested by Carabinieri officers from the Poggioreale Company's operational unit for possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
The military noticed him while he was driving on Corso S. Giovanni and, intrigued by his evident agitation, decided to stop him and search his vehicle.
Under De Maria's terrified gaze, the soldiers realized that the source of his apprehension was a cardboard bag placed in plain sight on the front passenger seat. It contained 7 blocks of hashish, each weighing about 100 grams.
After the drugs were seized and the formal procedures were completed, the 51-year-old was placed under house arrest. This morning, the judge confirmed the arrest and sentenced De Maria to two years in prison with the benefit of a suspended sentence.
