Naples. The Guardia di Finanza (Italian Finance Police) has dealt a severe blow to the online TV piracy business. Over 100 members of the Special Unit for the Protection of Privacy and Technological Fraud are engaged in a large-scale operation targeting the most important international clandestine organization, the creator and principal architect of the widespread illegal distribution of pay TV broadcasts, known as IPTV (Internet Protocol Television), over the internet. The popular Xtream Codes IT platform, blocking over 700 online users, has been seized and shut down; 25 people have been identified. Eight European investigation orders against a transnational criminal organization have been issued by the Naples prosecutor's office and executed simultaneously in the Netherlands, France, Greece, Germany, and Bulgaria. Numerous searches are underway in Italy and abroad to dismantle the network's facilities and seize its significant illicit proceeds. The details of the 'Black IPTV' operation will be illustrated at a press conference by the Naples prosecutor, Giovanni Melillo, scheduled for 10.30 am at the headquarters of the General Command of the Guardia di Finanza in Rome.
