“After the continuous defacement of the Monteoliveto fountain, we must deal with the vandalization of the statue of Octavian Augustus on the terrace of Via Cesario Console. The statue, already the target of hooliganism in the past, was violated with obscene drawings on the base. Unfortunately, acts of vandalism against Neapolitan monuments is a phenomenon that continues unabated. Too often, statues are defaced or even mutilated”. This is what regional councilor Francesco Emilio Borrelli of the Greens and the Environment manager of Sole che Ride Enzo Vasquez say. “This – they continue – is yet another black page in a book that is now very long. There is a part of the city that does everything to ruin it. When it fails with uncivilized gestures, it lavishes its energy on hooliganism. We need a protest from decent citizens with complaints and reports of all the acts of incivility and vandalism to which they are witnesses”.
