“We are deeply shocked by the state of profound degradation that characterizes Piazza Nazionale. Four months after Noemi was injured, nothing has changed, in fact the square has gotten even worse. The most visible criticality is undoubtedly that of the flowerbeds. The gardens are dried up due to the lack of irrigation. This is a problem that recurs in the summer months. The heat turns the grass into undergrowth, making the flowerbeds degraded. It is necessary to install automatic irrigation systems that make the vegetation lush. Furthermore, it is necessary to intensify controls against the phenomenon of the “wild scooter”. Dozens of motorcycles are racing without rules in the area of the gardens, risking running over passers-by”. This is what the regional councilor of the Greens Francesco Emilio Borrelli and the president of the association “Vivere il Quartiere” Enrico Cella say. “A second problem, equally serious, is linked to the tram lane that crosses the square. For some time it has been reduced to a real open-air landfill due to the uncivilized people who use it to abandon waste. Unfortunately, the lane, unlike other areas, is almost never cleaned. We sent a note to Asia and the Department of the Environment of the Municipality of Naples to ask them to intervene and clean it up periodically”.
