A new soccer team for the Sanità district of Naples. Last night, in the cloister of the Basilica of Santa Maria della Sanità, Sanità UNITED, the amateur sports club sponsored by the San Gennaro Community Foundation and the Third Municipality of Naples, was presented. This sports and social project was born from the passion of Cesare Poli and Michele Zagarola, artisan barbers from the district, who, with the help of sporting director Francesco Dell'Aquila and team manager Luca Zagarola, made their shop the headquarters of the new soccer club. Further motivation for their commitment, they explain, was the start of the renovation of the historic San Gennaro stadium: work on the facility's sports redevelopment will begin in a few days, with a €1 million investment from Spaccanapoli Calcio, another local organization that supports the youth in building the sports club. The new organization was founded with the support of Afro Napoli UNITED, an "anti-racist" team that recently celebrated its tenth anniversary and plays in the Campania Eccellenza championship. The team supported the young people working in the Sanità district by donating training and play kits. "We have always believed that sports initiatives are the best and most effective way to bring people together, a simple and direct language that engages all the communities in the district," says Ivo Poggiani, president of the third Municipality of Naples (Stella, San Carlo all'Arena). "The agreement for the renovation of the San Gennaro stadium was recently signed," he adds, "another important step in the municipal administration's ongoing program." The new organization aims to focus on "the neighborhood's young people who want to get involved and build connections for their district." The first concrete gesture will be the donation of school supplies for the children of the "La Casa dei Cristallini" association, an educational center that has been working in the Sanità district for years. "The road is long," say Cesare Poli and Michele Zagarola, "and certainly full of challenges, but we are deeply convinced that the people's support, the concerted participation, and the sense of belonging that unites everyone involved are the right start for bringing football to a constantly growing neighborhood."
