He is a real pickpocketing magician, a nimble artist, the criminal arrested yesterday by the police of the Campania Railway Police Department. The fifty-six year old Neapolitan SM, with multiple convictions, a professional pickpocket, chose his victims among the travelers waiting for the Piazza Garibaldi subway and with the skill of a magician stole their wallets and money. He had perfected a very refined technique: he would go into action when the train arrived and when the unfortunate person on duty got on board, taking advantage of the confusion, he would literally stick to him; at the moment in which the train doors were about to close, with a dexterity and speed comparable to that of a cobra's strike, he would steal the wallet from his pockets and quickly gain the exit.
A technique that guaranteed his safety because the victim remained stuck on board the train and, even if she had noticed the theft, she would not have been able to react. An important detail, this last one, because the serial pickpocket acted without accomplices, and struck his prey just like a lone wolf. But in the last few days a brave citizen, having noticed SM's attitude, filmed him with his cell phone and showed the video to an ANM security guard.
The latter showed the images to the Railway Police officers who began an investigation with stakeouts aimed at identifying the criminal. Yesterday the day did not turn out well for the criminal. SM “targeted” his prey, a German tourist, “tackled” him until the train arrived and carried out the “cobra move”, robbing him of his wallet containing the sum of 60 euros, his credit card and other personal documents.
Just as he was about to slip out of the departing train, the Polfer police officers, who had witnessed the whole scene, stopped him and took him to the offices of the Naples Department where SM delivered the stolen goods which were returned to the unsuspecting tourist, who only noticed the theft after the same police officers, having stopped the convoy, had invited him to follow them. At the end of the routine checks, the serial pickpocket professional was arrested for aggravated theft. Tried with a summary trial this morning, he was sentenced to 1 year and 3 months of imprisonment, a 200 euro fine and placed under house arrest. At the moment, checks are underway to identify the pickpocket victim caught on video by the brave citizen.
