“We are at the starting blocks to start the first regional ceramics school in Vietri sul Mare”. The announcement was made in Milan, at the premises of Spazio Campania, in Piazza Fontana, by the regional councilor for Education, Chiara Marciani who, with the Cna of Salerno, the Municipality of Vietri sul Mare and the Academy of Fine Arts of NAPLES, has officially started the operational phase for the establishment of the School, six months after the signing of the memorandum of understanding, which took place in March at the Campania region in the presence of the president Vincenzo De Luca. “The selection of students who will be able to participate in this new training course will take place soon – added Councillor Marciani – which represents for our young people not only a job opportunity but also an opportunity to enhance an excellence of our territory that we wanted to tell in Milan, thanks to the showroom, created by the Region and Unioncamere, dedicated to the excellence of our territory”. The birth of the regional school of training on ceramics in Vietri sul Mare represents for the Campania region an opportunity to provide training in a different way, responding to the needs of the territory. School-work alternation is not enough: a professional and complete training path is needed. This was also confirmed by Lucio Ronca, territorial president of Cna Salerno, the association that strongly supported the need to create the School in Vietri sul Mare, a town with an ancient ceramic tradition. Also present for the Cna were the national secretary of the Traditional Artistic Union, Gabriele Rotini and the president of Cna Milan, Daniela Cavagna. “The School for Vietri is a dream come true but above all it is the guarantee of offering a prospect of survival for what has always been an excellence of our territory – added the mayor Giovanni De Simone, accompanied in Milan by the delegate for ceramics, Daniele Benincasa – in Vietri there are 48 small and medium-sized artisanal businesses dedicated to the production of ceramics but it is difficult to find young resources willing to invest their future in this profession”. The Academy of Fine Arts, as highlighted by director Giuseppe Gaeta, will be entrusted with the task of finding the right balance, in the training of new artisans, between respect for traditional values and research or experimentation with innovative forms. The journey between tradition and innovation of twentieth-century ceramics was also the theme that inspired the exhibition set up at the Spazio Campania premises, entrusted to the artistic direction of master ceramist Franco Raimondi, protagonist yesterday of a live art experience. The exhibition will be open until September 26th in Milan. Just last night, the event also featured a tasting of local delicacies from the Salerno area, offered by the Vietri sul Mare Proloco and the Vietri sul Mare Restaurateurs Association.
