Yesterday, at the Port Authority of Naples, the Maritime Director of Campania, Admiral Inspector Pietro Giuseppe VELLA, presented the results of Operation Safe Sea 2019, which saw the women and men of the Maritime Directorate work to protect the safety of bathers, defend the marine environment and guarantee the safety of those who enjoyed the sea in the recently passed summer period.
As regards, specifically, the balance of the activities carried out by the personnel of the Guardia
Ischia coast, there were a total of 28 rescue operations coordinated and carried out with
success from the dependent naval vessels, which assisted 72 boaters and swimmers and 14
boats.
Over a thousand checks on recreational craft, from which 116 administrative violations were detected for a total of 102 thousand euros in fines. Among the most frequent violations, the presence of craft in areas reserved for bathing for a total of 60 violations and 16 thousand euros in fines.
Also relevant is the activity of contrasting the phenomenon of abusive leasing and rental of
boats and vessels, from which 36 administrative fines were issued for a total of over
78 thousand euros in fines.
In the state-owned sector, control activity has focused on the illegal occupation of stretches of
beach and on compliance with safety regulations by bathing establishments. In the first case
6 crime reports were forwarded to the Judicial Authority and 400 were seized
equipment for a total of 5000 mXNUMX of free areas returned to public use.
Positive signals, however, have been recorded in terms of beach safety where there has been a decrease
violations significantly. This data highlights the good prevention work started with the
trade associations and with the Municipal Administrations, aimed at raising awareness among traders and
in favor of consortium forms for the management of the rescue service.
In the environmental field, over 530 checks were carried out for a total of 30 administrative offences
and 5 crime reports sent to the Public Prosecutor's Office. Among the crimes ascertained are also the
violations relating to the rules of the Marine Protected Area with particular reference to the passage in
integral reserve area (Zone A).
Finally, as regards fishing controls, the value of the fines is over 12 thousand Euros.
