A heated discussion erupted in the Democratic Party (PD) MPs' chatroom over Renzi's split. Dario Franceschini reportedly chimed in with these words: "In 1921-22, fascism was growing, exploiting anger and fear. The Popular Party, Socialists, and Liberals had a majority in Parliament and formed the Bonomi governments, then Facta I, and then Facta II. The contentiousness and divisions within the parties weakened them, leading to Mussolini's triumph in October 1922. History should teach us not to repeat these mistakes."
